Young Guns

parents guide

We are here to assist parents/grandparents to teach children the importance of firearm safety. Educating children in gun safety is a necessity for all children whether you own one or not.

The most effective way a child will learn about firearms is to be honest and talk openly with them. Children will natural be curious and want to investigate further. It’s better to show them while you are with them instead of them coming across one somewhere else.

We offer firearm safety classes for the whole family. Depending on your family’s needs we can put together a class just for you. Introducing firearms can be a little scary to some children so we offer our range and classroom before and after hours for families. Our instructors offer firearm classes for proper use of handguns, shotguns or/and rifles. Youth Handgun Safety Act Notice - click here to download PDF

Young Guns Firearm Safety Lessons at the range.
We have the right place that is safe and comfortable for your children to learn and experience the proper way of safe handling of handguns and rifles. We offer the range for private lessons before normal hours and with trained NRA instructors that are also parents. We understand how children learn and encourage parents to participate.

Introduction to Handguns for Students (under 18 years of age)

We understand the importance of teaching firearm safety to families.   We have put together this private class geared for your family to learn together about firearmsafety and handling. Parent(s) will need to have a strong handle on firearm safety and use.  We encourage parent(s) to attend the adult version before attending the student class with their child(ren).

This class
includes classroom instruction and range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Students will receive the NRAGun Safety  book, and learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; and continued opportunities for skill development.

This class includes instruction, firearm, 22lr ammo, range time, target, eye protection & ear protection.   You may bring your own firearm, but ammo is purchased at our store right before class.

Please contact Michelle Pickett to set up your private class.

Summer Programs
The NRA has wonderful resources and programs for the whole family. The Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program is a great way to introduce young children to firearms without the firearms in the room. We offer this program over the summer and the NRA website has a great description of the program.

coloring bookThe Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program teaches children in pre-K through third grade four important steps to take if they find a gun. The purpose of the Eddie Eagle Program isn't to teach whether guns are good or bad, but rather to promote the protection and safety of children. The program makes no value judgments about firearms, and no firearms are ever used in the program. Like swimming pools, electrical outlets, matchbooks and household poison, they're treated simply as a fact of everyday life. With firearms found in about half of all American households, it's a stance that makes sense.

Eddie Eagle is never shown touching a firearm, and he does not promote firearm ownership or use. The program prohibits the use of Eddie Eagle mascots anywhere that guns are present. The Eddie Eagle Program has no agenda other than accident prevention - ensuring that children stay safe should they encounter a gun. The program never mentions the NRA. Nor does it encourage children to buy guns or to become NRA members. The NRA does not receive any appropriations from Congress, nor is it a trade organization. It is not affiliated with any firearm or ammunition manufacturers or with any businesses that deal in guns and ammunition.
